After the agreement is ratified, only 1–2 more formal documentation steps will remain to launch TRIPP. Mirzoyan
“This represents a new, unprecedented level of economic cooperation between Armenia and the United States. It is clear that the United States will have a significant role here and will pursue its own economic interests.” Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan made these remarks during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, while presenting the draft law on ratifying the Framework Agreement on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America concerning the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project.
The agreement is between Armenia and the United States and aims to regulate the activities of the TRIPP company and its subsequent management. This is the company that will eventually build and manage the project and receive concession rights.
“Once this agreement is ratified, we will have only one or two more formal documentation steps to complete. In other words, we will need to sign the shareholders’ agreement and approve the company’s charter. With that, the fundamental documentary steps required to launch TRIPP will most likely be complete. The agreement also aims to regulate these matters,” he said.
He added that any infrastructure that becomes operational, as well as any relationships that are established, will be governed entirely and in detail by, or within the framework of, several fundamental principles.
“These principles are well known to all of you: sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction over infrastructure located within our territory—naturally, the Republic of Armenia’s jurisdiction, which is absolute,” he said, noting that the word “sovereignty” appears eight times in the document.
It should be recalled that discussions on the TRIPP project began today in the National Assembly.
